0 Excuses that are acceptable
Rivers. Neighborhoods. Wooded area. Over 60+ people have wound up dead in Venango County without an investigation or any semblance of follow-up on their deaths. The investigations are stalled or either not taken serious enough to police to merit a thorough investigation at all.
Investigations are not thorough, leads stop being followed, and cases go quiet. All that’s left for families is grief and unanswered questions.
People in Venango County have been talking. Quietly at first and then as the names have built up over time they’ve been talking about it louder and louder. A troubling pattern has emerged that residents believe demands outside scrutiny.
The concern isn’t that people died. It’s that they keep showing up dead in neighborhoods, rivers, and across the county without known reasons why they died. Some were drug overdose or other reasons but there is no formal investigation into these deaths appearing across the county.
"Every single one of these people mattered. No one should be written off because of their past, their struggles, or whether their name was 'known' around town."
The sentiment shared by everyone who reached out to TheColdCases.com is that the value of human life is so precious that each of these people deserves an investigation. Your income, history, or relationship with local institutions should not matter. Every family deserves transparency in the death of their loved one.
Why Outside Eyes Matter
The community noticed patterns that local law enforcement has not publicly addressed and the next step is clear: bring in outside investigators, journalist, and officials. The community is demanding action.
This call for outside inspectors is not against any individual officer or individual. It is a call of accountability that every law enforcement agency should welcome. Otherwise, if investigation had been conducted properly it would only confirm that. If not, still families deserve to know.
The scrutiny the community wants is only the first step in helping understand what is happening. These cold cases could get reopened so people could get Justice. According to one report, over 60+ people have died understand mysterious circumstances in the past couple years.
Silence Is Not Neutral
Some of the important things the community understands is that staying quiet doesn’t protect anyone and it is only making it easier for cases to go unsolved. Neighbors are talking and when neighbors talk journalists ask questions, and then advocates shine a light on what they’re talking about. Witnesses find courage to speak and officials who let things slide face accountability.
The community of Venango is asking questions. They are doing what families and neighbors are suppose to do: refusing to let their loved one be forgotten.
What You Can Do Right Now
To the people living in or around Venango County if you have information about any of the cases in question here are some steps to take.
Talk. Share this article and say the names of the people who were lost. The more people see the pattern the harder it becomes for officials to hide it.
Contact your representative. State legislators and Pennsylvania Attorney General’s office have the authority and can request reviews of local investigations. Let these people know this matters to you.
Support the families. Much of these people are still fighting for answers and are doing it alone, often for years. Solidarity for the community matters and it tells families they’re not alone.
Submit what you know. Even a small tip. You can contact me at dustinreedterry@gmail.com.
"People need to start asking questions and talking about these cases. Silence only keeps the cycle going."
Venango County families deserve Justice and real investigation. Transparency is what they deserve too. People deserve to know how and why these people ended up dead with the same seriousness than any other victim would get—regardless of their background, struggles, or standing in the community.
That is not too much to ask and it is the minimum Justice requires.
